McLaren 675LT Review

The McLaren 675LT was launched in March, at the price of $616,250 and it represents a long-tailed 650S Super Series. Only 500 were produced and all of them were sold out in a matter of weeks. Is it worth it?

The McLaren 675LT holds all the characteristics of a much-coveted luxury car. Priced at over $616,000 and sold out in a matter of weeks, the vehicle presents a 3.8-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol engine, with a torque of 700 Nm. Pirelli P Zero Trofeo tyres adorn the LT, as they supposedly provide an increased grip of as much as 6%, compared to the typical P Zero Corsa tyres. That is in the dry, but in wet conditions, things are a bit different.

As for acceleration, it is said to go from 0 to 100 km/h as fast as 2.9 seconds, while 200 km/h is reached in 7.9 seconds. When it comes to stopping, from 100 km/h, that will happen in 3.0 seconds and 30.2 metres. The McLaren’s top speed is claimed at an honourable 330km/h. These numbers can be achieved thanks to its low weight – 1230 – which was possible through the use of light materials, such as carbon fibre, as well as aero aids and increased output.

The interior is similar to that of racing cars, with a comfortable seat and high-end, high-quality furnishings. A plaque on the exterior reminds you that the LT is somewhat unique, or at least 1 of the 500 that were made and sold at a rapid pace.

Accelerating will produce pleasing sounds, coming from the engine, but you should know that they are loud ones. Driving this car is a loud experience, as the manufacturers have opted out of soundproofing, in favour of maintaining a low weight. The engine does roar beautifully, though, so that may not be a concern for everyone who has decided to purchase this car.

The car does not shake a lot, but you can expect the suspension to be quite firm. Leaving the Normal setting on will provide a higher-quality experience, from this point of view, while the Sports setting, for example, is significantly harsher. Both these settings have a track bias calibration, with the Powertrain and Handling options (which are reminiscent of the 650S), being accessible from the central switch bank.

The chassis set-up and powertrain can be adjusted separately, but that can be difficult to do en-route. Moreover, it is recommended for this car to stay on the expressway, because gravel, potholes and rough roads are not friends of the LT.

fAll in all, the McLaren 675LT is definitely a high-quality vehicle that rises up to standards. While it is best kept on smooth roads, the car offers an overall enjoyable and comfortable driving experience.
